Research Chemist

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Research Chemist to join our Newburyport, Massachusetts laboratory. In this role you will design and execute research programs focused on developing novel specialty chemical products and improving existing product lines for pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and fine chemical markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute synthetic research programs targeting new specialty chemical products
• Develop and optimize reaction conditions, purification methods, and analytical characterization protocols
• Collaborate with process engineering to translate laboratory-scale syntheses to pilot and production scale
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare technical reports summarizing research findings
• Support patent applications and publications arising from research activities
• Evaluate competitive technologies and identify opportunities for product differentiation
• Work within cGMP guidelines when applicable to pharmaceutical intermediate projects

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or closely related field
• Demonstrated expertise in synthetic chemistry with strong publication or patent record
• Proficiency in spectroscopic characterization techniques (NMR, MS, IR, GC)
• Experience working safely with air- and moisture-sensitive compounds
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with boron chemistry, hydrides, or organometallic synthesis
• Familiarity with cGMP manufacturing requirements
• Post-doctoral research experience in an industrial or academic setting
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical API synthesis and ICH guidelines
